The Top 5 NBA Arenas in the League
It’s no secret that throughout the country, there are NBA arenas of every shape and size, from old favorites to new, sprawling ones featuring an immersive experience of sports, shopping, and food.
However, there are some true standouts that every fan should visit and the experts from NBATrips have collected the top five here!
1. Madison Square Garden (New York)
It probably isn’t a surprise that New York City’s Madison Square Garden is at the top of the list of must-visit NBA arenas. It’s not one of the only league’s oldest original arenas but has also been the home to iconic music greats, once-in-a-lifetime concerts, and some of history’s most talented hoop stars including LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Reggie Miller. Even Michael Jordan has been quoted as stating “There’s something special about playing at Madison Square Garden.”
2. United Center (Chicago)
The Windy City’s United Center Arena opened in 1994 and has since played an integral role in basketball history mainly due to the home team’s Chicago Bulls’ ability to produce all-star after all-star, and some of NBA history’s most memorable games of all time. However, the arena itself is not without its charms, boasting statues of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.
3. Staples Center (Los Angeles)
Los Angeles’s Staples Center was built at the turn of the millennium (1999) and has since been the home of the Lakers and many of basketball’s best players like Shaquille O-Neal, Kobe Bryant, and Earvin “Magic” Johnson. The arena boasts a classic feel and the air is reminiscent of both basketball greatness and ice hockey, and features a statue of sports legend Wayne Gretzky as well.
4. TD Garden (Boston)
Although not in the same exact location, many locals and sports fans alike still lovingly refer to TD Garden as “The Garden,” an homage to one of the most iconic arenas in history. Even though TD Garden is different, it’s brought along all of the city’s most memorable moments with it. Home to the Celtics and the Bruins, this modern version of a classic arena is a fan favorite, especially due to its involvement in the 2008 and 2010 NBA Playoffs.
5. AT&T Center (San Antonio)
For more than a decade now, AT&T Center has been a San Antonio staple, being home to the Spurs and not only hosting the playoffs numerous times since its construction but bearing witness to three of the team’s most recent titles. There have been truly iconic moments in basketball history there. Who could forget Tim Duncan’s three-pointer in overtime of the first game of the 2008 playoffs against the Suns?
